Sep 27, 2011- US clean energy firm Pattern Energy and Samsung Renewable Energy, part of South Korean Samsung C&T (SEO:000830), have closed a deal with German engineering company Siemens AG (ETR:SIE) to supply locally-made turbines for 870 MW of wind projects in Canada's Ontario province.
The contract will result in the creation of up to 600 jobs at CS Wind's tower plant in Windsor and Siemens' blade factory in Tillsonburg, Pattern Energy said in a statement yesterday.
The wind projects, which are currently under development, include the 270-MW South Kent Wind, the 150-MW Grand Renewable Energy park, the 270-MW K2 Wind, and the 180-MW Armow Wind project. They will produce enough electricity to supply some 300,000 households a year, according to Pattern Energy.
Under Samsung's Green Energy Investment agreement with the government of Ontario, Samsung and its partners have made a commitment to invest CAD 7 billion (USD 6.8bn/EUR 5bn) in the province to roll out 2,500 MW of green energy capacity. Samsung and Pattern have agreed to develop wind power farms using Ontario-made wind turbine components. The partners are also building four equipment factories in Ontario.
