October 6 (Renewables Now) - Swedish renewable energy plants developer OX2 said today it has completed the first large-scale wind repowering project in Finland with the commissioning of the 42.4-MW Ajos wind farm in Kemi in the northern part of the country.
The upgraded wind farm has been handed over to Ikea Finland, which agreed to purchase the facility at the end of 2015.
The repowering project replaced 10 older wind turbines located on artificial islands offshore and along the shoreline with 13 modern turbines, eight Siemens SWT-130 3.3 MW offshore and five Siemens SWT-113 3.2 MW onshore machines. The new turbines are expected to more than double the site's generation, producing about 160 GWh per year.
OX2 will continue to manage the Ajos wind farm. It manages four other wind farms for Ikea, three in Sweden and one in Lithuania.
