Construction work has been initiated on the GBP-25-million (USD 32.9m/EUR 28.2m) operations and maintenance (O&M) building for the 714-MW East Anglia One offshore wind project in UK waters, it was announced today.
NRS Group is in charge of designing and building the facility at Associated British Ports’ Hamilton Dock in Lowestoft. The hub will serve as the base for marine operations, specialist offices and warehousing, and will house about 100 full-time employees upon completion.
Also today it was announced that Great Yarmouth-based company 3sun Group has won a GBP-2.5-million contract to service the construction stage of the offshore wind farm from the same hub. More specifically, 3sun will carry out onshore and offshore services including labour from administrators to offshore technicians and supply materials, personal protective equipment, waste management, providing health and safety and Global Wind Organisation training.
“This is the biggest single site contract we have ever had,” said 3sun CEO Graham Hacon.
East Anglia One is being developed by ScottishPower Renewables. The project involves the installation of 102 wind turbines approximately 30 miles off the coast. Onshore construction work for the cable route and substation is already underway and the first turbines are expected to be installed next year. The wind farm should be fully operational in 2020.
