Ohio State University to buy 50 MW of wind from Iberdrola
Oct 2, 2012 - The Ohio State University on Monday said it would buy 50 MW of wind power capacity at the 304-MW Blue Creek wind farm from Iberdrola Renewables.
Under a letter of intent inked between the university and the US renewable energy unit of Spanish energy group Iberdrola (MCE:IBE), Ohio State university is to buy enough wind capacity to meet around 25% of the electricity demand of its Columbus campus.
The deal is part of the university's strategy of becoming a "carbon neutral university". As a result of the 20-year purchase agreement, new opportunities will arise for research between the university and Iberdrola Renewables, the university expects.
Local utility AEP Energy is to supply the university with power from the Blue Creek wind park.
