Nordex to supply turbines for 100-MW Irish project of SSE Renewables

German wind turbine manufacturer Nordex SE (ETR:NDX1) said today that at the end of 2022 it received an order from SSE Renewables, part of Scotland-based energy company SSE PLC (LON:SSE), for more than 100 MW of turbines for a wind project in Ireland.

Nordex will supply 29 units of its N117/3600 machine for the Yellow River wind farm near the village of Rhode in County Offaly. Delivery and installation will start at the end of 2023. The manufacturer will install the turbines on tubular steel towers with tip heights of 156 metres (512 ft) and 166 metres. Under the contract, it will also service them after commissioning.

Nordex committed to working with local businesses where possible. This is the first time the German company will be delivering turbines for SSE Renewables.

SSE Renewables acquired the Yellow River project in December 2019. The project was awarded full planning consent in 2014. In May 2022, the 104.4-MW scheme was successful in Ireland’s second Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS) auction.
