German wind turbine maker Nordex (ETR:NDX1) said it has installed the first N163/5.X onshore turbine unit, a 5-MW-plus model for low to moderate winds, at the site of the Janneby wind farm in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The new machine, part of the manufacturer’s Delta4000 series, has about 80-metre rotor blades and a rotor sweep of 20,867 square metres (224,611 sq ft). As such, it is currently the most efficient Nordex turbine in the 5-MW class for moderate and light-wind sites, the company stated. The N163/5.X was launched in 2019. Since then, Nordex obtained international IEC certification for global markets, issued in the form for a Design Evaluation Conformity Statement (DECS), for hub heights of 118, 148 and 159 metres. In Germany, hub heights of 118 and 164 metres passed type tests in line with the DIBt 2012 standard, according to Nordex. Power and sound measurements, and validation of mechanical loads will be conducted at Janneby in the coming months for IEC type certification. “[W]e have installed the first turbine as planned and series production is ready to start,” said Nordex Group CEO Jose Luis Blanco. So far, Nordex has accumulated orders for 520 units of the N163/5.X turbines, totalling some 3 GW, for projects in Australia, Brazil, the Nordic region, Germany and Italy.
