German wind turbine manufacturer Nordex SE (ETR:NDX1) will introduce the largest capacity turbine in the Indian market so far when it presents the AW125/3000 model in New Delhi next week.
The 3-MW turbine of Acciona Windpower, which Nordex acquired last year, will be presented at India's Windergy fair, which is taking place from April 25 to April 27. The turbine has a rotor diameter of 125 metres (410 ft) and a hub height of 120 m on a concrete tower.
The German company is manufacturing the AW125/3000 turbine at its already operating plant in Chennai, it said today. Nordex also has a concrete tower manufacturing facility in Bijapur, Karnataka. Both production and products are certified for the Indian market, the company noted.
German rival Senvion SA (ETR:SEN) yesterday announced the launch in India of four turbine models in the 2-MW class as it is looking to take a share of the fast-growing Indian wind power market. Highlighting the market's potential, it was reported today that the government of India intends to hold tenders for a total of 4,000 MW of wind power capacity in the current fiscal year through March 31, 2018.
