Nordex bags wind turbine orders for 252 MW in S Africa

German wind turbine maker Nordex SE (ETR:NDX1) said today it has secured “big-ticket” contracts for the supply and installation of 252 MW in South Africa across two separate projects.

Enel Green Power has ordered 46 units of the AW125/3150 machines for the Garob wind farm in the Northern Cape province.

At the same time, independent power producer Elawan has purchased 34 pieces of the same turbine model for the Copperton project, also in Northern Cape.

Both projects were awarded in the fourth round of the South African government’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) and the orders associated with them include multi-year service contracts.

“We have been awarded turbine supply for a total of around 400 MW in 2018,” commented Patxi Landa, chief sales officer of Nordex.
