November 15 (Renewables Now) - NextEra Energy Transmission New York Inc, part of US utility group NextEra Energy Inc (NYSE:NEE), has submitted proposals to build the transmission lines that will carry power from offshore wind farms in the Atlantic Ocean to points in New York and Long Island.

Its proposed lines are collectively named the New York Renewable Connect, the company said.

NextEra Energy Transmission sent the proposals in response to the New York Independent System Operator's (NYISO) Long Island Offshore Wind Public Policy Transmission Need. It said that the proposals accommodate varying levels of Long Island offshore wind injections, and were designed to ensure reliable and cost-effective delivery of offshore wind power.

Grid manager NYISO could select a winning proposal in the second half of 2022, NextEra Energy Transmission said.

Another NextEra subsidiary recently announced it had submitted several proposals to build offshore wind transmission connections for the state of New Jersey.
