Nexans wins cable supply deal for 108 MW German offshore wind farm
Aug 24, 2011 - French cable maker Nexans (EPA:NEX) has won a contract to supply and install submarine power cables and ancillary equipment for the 108 MW Riffgat offshore wind farm in Germany.
Under the terms of the contract, final delivery of the Riffgat cables will take place in the autumn of 2012, while installation is scheduled to begin in July the same year, Nexans said in a statement today.
The 33 kV cables will be produced at Nexan's plant in Hannover, Germany, whereas the company's business in Norway will be responsible for cable installation.
The Riffgat wind farm, covering an area of 6 sq km (2.3 sq miles), will comprise 30 wind turbines, sufficient to meet the needs of some 100,000 households. It is located 15 km northwest of the German island of Borkum and is being developed by German energy supplier EWE AG and Enova GmbH & Co KG.
