January 11 (Renewables Now) - French cable producer Nexans (EPA:NEX) announced today that it has bought a controlling stake in BE CableCon, a Danish cable kits supplier that serves wind turbine companies.

Nexans has made this acquisition as it wants to step up its growth in the “highly promising” renewable energy segment and as part of its strategy to develop its business beyond manufacturing cables, it said. The purchase will enable the French company to develop new growth opportunities for cable-kitting solutions in other industry segments.

Founded in Viborg over a decade ago, BE CableCon designs, engineers and produces cable kits that allow wind turbine manufacturers to simplify the installation of the power, control and communication cable systems within their towers and nacelles.

“We look forward to expanding beyond Northern Europe to work with global OEMs as well as addressing new markets in the North American and Asia-Pacific regions,” said Klaus Moller, CEO of BE CableCon. Moller will be leading the new Nexans subsidiary.
