Sep 10, 2014 - Australian firm Newtricity plans by November 2015 to file an environmental impact statement (EIS) for a wind project in New South Wales of around 80 MW, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) said today, citing an official.
The planning application for the Woolbrook wind project will also be lodged next year, director Annmaree Lavery said, as quoted by the news agency.
The developer’s proposal envisages the construction of the 30-turbine wind farm within the New England Tablelands region of New South Wales and transmission line upgrades. The project calls for a total investment of AUD 100 million (USD 91.6m/EUR 70.9m), excluding goods and services tax, with funds to be provided by an Irish investor.
Lavery expressed her concern as regards to investor confidence at the time the project is approved and its ability to move ahead with the wind park's construction due to the effect of the government’s ongoing revision of Australia’s renewable energy target (RET) scheme. The RET review panel recently called for either the close of the RET scheme to new entrants with large-scale projects or adjustments to the set renewable energy share goals. The government's response is expected soon.
