August 17 (Renewables Now) - The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) on Tuesday launched the third solicitation under a programme through which it seeks to procure Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from wind and hydropower generation capacity.

The Competitive Tier 2 programme is open to existing privately-owned facilities that have entered commercial operations before January 1, 2015.

NYSERDA will review the proposals in terms of the lowest offered price, with bids to be accepted by September 15, 2022. The winners will be announced in October.

Initiated in early 2021, New York’s large-scale renewable energy procurement programme backs the state’s goal of sourcing 70% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. Since its launch, the scheme has awarded three projects that will generate enough renewable power to supply close to 8,300 homes.

The programme is funded through a requirement for load serving entities (LSEs) to buy Tier 2 RECs from NYSERDA each year.
