New fire erupts at Renewable Energy Group's Louisiana biorefinery

A fire broke out at midnight on September 4 at Renewable Energy Group Inc’s (NASDAQ:REGI) Geismar renewable diesel biorefinery in the state of Louisiana.

It was extinguished by 0420 in the morning, local time, the company said. One REG employee and three contractors have sustained injuries and sent to the Baton Rouge General Hospital.

At the start of April 2015, there was another fire at the same biorefinery. Back then REGI said it could take between two and four months to restore operations.

The company has not yet given any more information about last week’s fire.

Renewable Energy Group acquired the Geismar plant in the summer of 2014 from meat processor Tyson Foods Inc and Oklahoma-based renewable diesel fuel technologies firm Syntroleum Corp. The plant has an annual nameplate capacity of 75 million gallons (283.9 million litres) of biodiesel. It is located inside a complex of other industrial plants.
