Canadian utility Saint John Energy and energy providers in Edmundston and Perth-Andover have joined hands in the development of two community wind projects totalling 40 MW in the province of New Brunswick.
The three have submitted joint proposals for the Charlotte County and the Chapman County wind parks, each with a planned capacity of 20 MW, Saint John Energy said in a press release. Each project is seen to require an investment of around CAD 60 million (USD 47.9m/EUR 40.6m). The partners will rely on loans and existing capital resources to cover the cost, Dan Dionne, chief administrative officer for the Village of Perth-Andover, told CBC News.
The two projects in South Oromocto and Chapmanville were identified and put forward for consideration under the province’s Locally-Owned Renewable Energy Small Scale (LORESS) programme. If greenlit, they could be put on stream as early as end-2020.
Once up and running, the plants are expected to produce enough electricity to supply about 6,400 homes per year, per project. Their output will be sold to utility NB Power.
The partners have engaged renewable plants operator Valeco Energie Quebec to develop the projects.
