Neste Oil's renewable diesel obtains sustainability certification

(ADPews) - Nov 26, 2010 - Finnish oil refining company Neste Oil Oyj (HEL:NES1V) said on Thursday it obtained International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) for its NExBTL renewable diesel in Germany.

The certificate affirms that NExBTL produced at the company's Porvoo refinery in southern Finland is suitable for use on the German market. In addition, the certification process verified the method for calculating the cut in greenhouse gas emissions associated with the diesel.

The certification was carried out by Swiss-based audit and certification company SGS SA (VTX:SGSN). Neste Oil's other NExBTL production plants will also be ISCC certified in the future.

From 2011, Germany will require sustainability certification for all biofuels sold in the country. The ISCC is the first standard for sustainability based on the European Union's (EU) new renewable energy directive and approved by the German Federal Office of Agriculture and Food (BLE).
