Neste Oil, Raisioagro to study straw potential as renewable fuel feedstock

Sep 2, 2013 - Finland's Neste Oil Corporation (HEL:NES1V) said today it had launched a research project together with agricultural trader Raisioagro for investigating the potential of straw as a raw material for producing renewable diesel.

The company added that large quantities of waste straw come as agricultural residue in Finland and abroad, while only a small proportion is currently used.

Now the project will try to find out whether a logistically effective and efficient, large-scale straw harvesting chain could be established in Finland. The storability of straw for use as an industrial input will also be researched.

Neste Oil has already developed microbial oil technology, which allows straw to be used as a feedstock for producing NExBTL renewable diesel
