Nelja Energia considering 40-MW wind park in Lithuania - report

Estonian energy producer Nelja Energia AS plans to install up to 40 MW of wind power capacity in western Lithuania, the Baltic News Service (BNS) reports.

The plant will be an extension of an existing 60-MW wind farm in Lithuania’s Silute district and will require an investment of between EUR 40 million (USD 47.1m) and EUR 50 million. The existing park, producing 220 GWh of electricity annually, was constructed at a total cost of EUR 100 million and was brought online last year.

The 40-MW plan needs to receive clearance from Lithuania’s Ministry of National Defense as the turbines will be close to the Lithuanian border with Russia's Kaliningrad region.

Nelja Energia owns five wind farms in Lithuania. It plans to build the up to 40 MW of fresh wind power capacity after 2020, according to the report.
