(ADPnews) - Oct 20, 2010 - US National Clean Fuels (OTC:NACF) said Wednesday it had begun planning for a biomass-to-electricity project in Mississippi together with the local Center for Environment, Commerce & Energy.
According to the plan, the biomass-fueled facility in Port Gibson will produce power through the gasification of sawdust and woodchips. Scoping works on the project have already commenced.
A month ago, NACF signed a letter of intent with the local municipality to identify opportunities for clean power generation within the area. Earlier in October, it inked an option agreement with the Environment, Commerce & Energy centre, which will help with the planning and implementation of the biomass-to-power development.
The planning phase of the project is to be completed by the end of 2010, while implementation is to take place in the first quarter of 2011. NACF said it was looking for an interconnection agreement with local utility firms to connect the new plant to the grid.
The state of Mississippi is trying to boost clean-fuel production and usage. Recently, it agreed to spend USD 51 million (EUR 37m) on new incentives to attract three biofuel facilities to the state. This figure adds to an existing USD-30-million loan programme.
