February 25 (SeeNews) - Mortenson Construction said on Wednesday it will serve as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for EDF Renewable Energy’s 150-MW Slate Creek wind project in Kansas.
Mortenson will be in charge of constructing the access roads, foundations, operations and maintenance (O&M) hub and underground electrical collection system. It will also install the 75 pieces of 2-MW wind turbines that will be supplied by Vestas.
The company expects to start building works in May and to complete the plant in December 2015. Great Plains Energy will be buying the output of the wind park under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) signed last year.
Over a 15-year period, Mortenson and EDF Renewable Energy have built more than 3,300 MW of wind farms together. The Slate Creek projects is their 26th collaboration. In Kansas alone, Mortenson has built the 100-MW Spearville I and the 100-MW Spearville III wind parks for EDF Renewable Energy.
