Minesto to present plans for 10-MW Welsh tidal project next week
Swedish tidal energy firm Minesto AB said on Monday it will hold a public consultation event to present its plans for the first phase of a 10-MW installation off the coast of Holy Island, North Wales.
The company will showcase the plans on May 21 in Holyhead, it said, adding that the project design and environmental impact assessment are progressing.
The Holyhead Deep project will use Minesto’s Deep Green (DG) underwater kite technology. The first tidal array will comprise three 500-kW DG units, which are expected to be installed during the summer of 2017, according to information on the company’s website.
The ultimate goal is to expand the plant to 10 MW. The Crown Estate granted an Agreement for Lease (AfL) for the project to Minesto in June 2014.
