MHI Vestas wins conditional supply deal for offshore wind turbines

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind A/S has struck a conditional deal to supply wind turbines for an unnamed offshore wind project.

The agreement was unveiled on Friday by Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) -- the Danish wind turbine maker which owns the joint venture together with Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (TYO:7011).

According to the press release, the deal is “not materially above Vestas’ announcement threshold for offshore projects of 800 MW.” The Denmark-based group noted that the contract will not be registered in its own order backlog, adding that if it translates into a firm and unconditional order an official announcement will follow.

MHI Vestas' turbines are powering the 258-MW Burbo Bank Extension wind farm in Liverpool Bay and the 400-MW Rampion park off Sussex, among others. In June, the company secured final certification for its V164-9.5 MW turbine, the most powerful currently available on the market, which was selected for the 224-MW Northwester 2 project off Belgium, and the 860-MW Triton Knoll and 950-MW Moray Offshore Windfarm East projects in UK waters.
