Japanese renewable power producer Renova Inc (TYO:9519) announced today that MHI Vestas Offshore Wind A/S has been selected as the turbine supplier for the 700-MW Akita Yurihonjo offshore wind project.
Located in Akita prefecture, the wind scheme is under Akita Yurihonjo Offshore Wind GK (AYOW), a joint venture of Renova, Cosmo Eco Power Co Ltd, JR-EAST Energy Development Co Ltd and electric utility Tohoku Electric Power Co Inc (TYO:9506).
According to a previous announcement, Akita Yurihonjo is expected to enter the construction phase in fiscal year 2021, while completion is set to occur after fiscal 2024.
At present, AYOW is engaging in talks with local residents, fishermen and other local stakeholders. The company is also working on the environmental impact assessments and various other surveys, Renova pointed out.
Recently, Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) announced an order from MHI Vestas to make the 139 MW of turbines for the Akita Noshiro offshore wind park, also located in Japan’s Akita prefecture. The company behind the project is Akita Offshore Wind Corp, which is led by Marubeni Corp (TYO:8002).
