November 7 (Renewables Now) - MHI Vestas Offshore Wind today confirmed a firm order from Belgian offshore wind developer Parkwind for the 219-MW Northwester 2 offshore wind park in Belgium.

The project will be the first offshore wind park worldwide to feature MHI Vestas' V164-9.5 MW turbine. Installation of the 23 turbines at the site is due to start in late 2019. The fast installation timetable reflects "a highly collaborative approach, supply chain readiness, and the industrialisation of offshore wind in Belgium," the companies said.

The supply and installation contract also includes a 15-year service agreement.

Northwester 2, owned 70% by Parkwind and 30% by Sumitomo Corp (TYO:8053) of Japan, reached financial close a month ago.

MHI Vestas and Parkwind noted that Belgium is looking to expand its offshore wind capacity to 4 GW by 2025.
