Metso wins boiler conversion order at Polish CHP plant

Sep 6, 2011 - Finnish industrial machinery company Metso Oyj (HEL:MEO1V) last week said it had agreed to convert a coal-fired boiler to biomass-fired bubbling fluidised bed (BFB) boiler at a combined heat and power (CHP) plant in northern Poland.

The EUR-20-million (USD 28.4m) order, placed by Elektrocieplownia Bialystok S.A., a unit of Polish energy producer and distributor Enea (WAR:ENA), envisages boiler modifications, pressure parts, field yard expansion to enable a larger amount of biomass supply for fuel use, electrification and automation systems to control and monitor emissions.

The CHP plant will run with electricity generation capacity of 166 MW and thermal energy capacity of 460 MW from December 2012, partly replacing the coal fuel with biomass mainly from forest and agro-based residues.
