Sep 27, 2013 - Enertrag Hytec, the electrolyzer unit of German renewable energy company Enertrag, will be acquired by French hydrogen storage specialist Mcphy Energy as of October 1, the two companies said today.
Enertrag Hytec will continue operations under the name of Mcphy Deutschland.
Following the takeover, the companies will jointly develop hydrogen solutions to address excess generation of wind power. Enertrag Hytec's large-scale electrolysis systems for energy storage convert electrical energy through electrolysis of water into hydrogen, which can be used as raw material in the industry or in fuel cell technology.
The acquisition will help Mcphy develop its hydrogen technology portfolio, group's CEO, Pascal Mauberger, said. Earlier this year, the company took over Italian Piel, which specialises in smaller electrolyzer systems of up to 500 kW. McPhy's core expertise is storing hydrogen in a solid state, based on magnesium hydrides.
Enertrag plans to concentrate on the development of renewable energy projects and green power production in future and to shift its focus from industrial manufacturing, company's CEO, Joerg Mueller, said.
