October 22 (Renewables Now) - Mawson Infrastructure Group Inc (NASDAQ:MIGI), a Sydney-based digital infrastructure provider specialising in cryptocurrency mining and digital asset management, plans to soon open its first site in Australia, fully powered by renewable energy.

The facility, with a capacity of 20 MW, will be brought online in northern New South Wales in partnership with investment manager Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners. At the new site, Mawson will deploy a new generation Modular Data Centre (MDC) specifically designed for Australian conditions. It will add about 0.4 EH to global operations.

The two parties have also identified a pipeline of renewable energy assets across the Quinbrook portfolio in Australia and the US where they could co-develop sites in the future.

“Our partnership reflects our joint view that renewable energy will be key to future data centre infrastructure. Mawson is seeking to identify renewable energy projects which lead the transition to a decarbonized society, with a key focus on sustainable bitcoin mining,” commented James Manning, CEO and founder of Mawson.
