Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company Masdar and Indonesian power company PT Pembangkitan Jawa-Bali (PT PJB) are partnering up to develop large-scale clean energy projects in the Asian country.
The companies signed last weekend a memorandum of understanding (MoU) as part of which Masdar and PT PJB will explore areas of collaboration, seeking to help meet Indonesia’s rapidly growing energy demand. The partnership will focus on projects located within the Java-Bali and Sumatra regions.
“We believe this memorandum of understanding will bring success to renewable energy development and implementation in Indonesia”, said Iwan Agung Firstantara, President Director of PT PJB.
Indonesia plans to achieve 23% of renewable energy use by 2025 and 31% by 2050. The country has the potential for more than 700 GW of renewable energy generation, including 532.6 GW of solar power alone, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
