Mainstream Renewable strikes lease deal for 450-MW UK wind project
Aug 26, 2011 - Irish renewable energy developer Mainstream Renewable Power yesterday said it had signed a land lease agreement with the Crown Estate for its 450-MW Neart na Gaoithe wind power project off Scotland.
The agreement defines the commercial conditions to use the seabed.
The wind farm will produce enough energy to meet 3.7% of Scotland's electricity demand when in full operation.
Mainstream Renewable secured grid connection in 2010 and plans to apply for environmental permits this year, close the project's financing in 2013 and to begin construction in 2014.
Earlier this year, the Scottish government's Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) selected the project as one of six projects in the current Scottish Territorial Waters programme suitable for development.
