May 11 (Renewables Now) - Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG) and Renewable Infrastructure Development Group (RIDG) have teamed up to bid in the upcoming ScotWind offshore wind leasing round in Scotland.

“By partnering right at the genesis of development, we’re making our earliest commitment in UK offshore wind so far,” Ed Northam, Head of GIG Europe, says in a press statement.

Crown Estate Scotland is expected to launch the leasing round shortly, according to the announcement. The competitive process was previously planned for October 2019, but was delayed until Marine Scotland finalised and adopted the Sectoral Marine Plan for Commercial Scale Offshore Wind.

To date, GIG has backed 16 offshore wind projects with a combined capacity exceeding 4.5 GW. This includes the purchase of a 40% stake in the 714-MW East Anglia One offshore wind farm in UK waters.

On the other hand, RIDG is a Scottish offshore wind developer established in 2017. The firm announced in January its intention to participate in ScotWind and collaborate with the local supply chain.
