(SeeNews) - Feb 7, 2014 - Spain will still post an electricity tariff deficit of some EUR 1.1 billion (USD 1.492bn) despite the reduction of renewable energy premiums by the government, consultancy Macquarie said.

Although Macquarie's analysts reduced their expectations for the tariff deficit by EUR 150 million due to the energy reform, the problem with the balance of the country's power system is still unresolved.

Electricity production fees will offset some EUR 2.5 billion of the EUR 5.5 billion, and the cut of the renewable energy premiums -- other EUR 1.75 billion, Macquarie added.

Spanish power utility Iberdrola (MCE:IBE) will be the most harmed by the reform, with annual renewable energy revenues seen declining by 25%, followed by Acciona (MCE:ANA) with 23% drop and EDP with a 10% fall.

Yesterday, analysts with Fidentiis warned that Acciona can swing to loss this year because of the government's measures.

(EUR 1.0 = USD 1.357)
