Local company Neville Tucker Heating Ltd has secured a GBP-12-million (USD 18.8m/EUR 16.4m) contract to work on Siemens AG's (ETR:SIE) wind turbine blade factory in Hull, northeastern England.
UK contractor VolkerFitzpatrick, which was selected by the German group to build the factory, said last week it has appointed the Hull-based firm as a sub-contractor to provide various electrical and mechanical building services on the site.
David Sershall, managing director of VolkerFitzpatrick's building division, said the deal supported the company's commitment to source 25% of the labour used on site from a radius of 25 miles (40 km) and create around 200 jobs in the area.
Shaun Cray, Siemens' general manager, real estate and construction, for the project, said the announcement was "strong evidence of VolkerFitzpatrick making good on their commitment to us to support local employment and access the local supply chain."
Siemens will create 1,000 jobs in the blade factory and associated facilities.
The German group will produce 75-metre (246-ft) turbine blades at the plant and it will also assemble, maintain, store and distribute wind turbine components. The factory is due to be completed in autumn 2016.
