May 18 (Renewables Now) - Lloyd’s Register has been selected by Dong Energy A/S (CPH:DENERG) to oversee offshore surveys for the Danish utility’s wind projects in US waters.

Through its Maine-based subsidiary SGC Engineering, Lloyd’s has already supported Dong in offshore site and export cable route geophysical and hydrographic surveys for the Bay State project. It said today it has also been awarded a contract to support further offshore survey work of the Bay State project, in addition to the initial survey work needed in the Ocean Wind site, both of which are planned for this month.

Dong has secured two offshore wind leases in the US for Bay State, off Massachusetts, and Ocean Wind, off New Jersey. If given the green light, the projects are expected to surpass 1 GW of capacity.
