LG Chem equips 7-MW storage system in Ohio

South Korea's LG Chem Ltd (KRX:051915) has commissioned a 7-MW/3-MWh battery energy system in Ohio for S&C Electric Co, the lithium-ion battery manufacturer said Thursday.

The solar and energy storage system also includes 4.2 MW photovoltaic (PV) installations in the service territory of the village of Minster.

LG Chem's scope of work included delivery of an integrated battery solution, battery installation supervision and commissioning. S&C integrated the overall system with the grid and provided the power conversion system.

The installation is owned by renewable energy company Half Moon Ventures (HMV) and will be used mainly by the local municipal utility of the village of Minster. According to the announcement, it will provide four distinct revenue streams - frequency regulation, transmission and distribution cost deferral, power quality improvements, and peak demand shaving.

"This project shows how the energy storage industry has entered another phase with viable projects for customers and end users," said Sunghoon Jang of LG Chem.
