Leeward Renewable Energy today said it has repowered its Sweetwater 3 wind farm in Nolan County, Texas and has achieved final financial close for the project.
GE Renewable Energy replaced and enhanced components of 90 legacy wind turbines, increasing the capacity of the project to about 146 MW from 135 MW. The repowering will result in a double-digit increase in annual energy production, according to Leeward.
Equity tax financing was provided by GE Energy Financial Services and BHE Renewables.
The wind farm will continue to supply power to CPS Energy under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA). Power delivery continued throughout the repowering process.
Sweetwater 3 was first commissioned in 2005, being one of the original wind farms of Leeward.
