Landsvirkjun looks at sites for nine new geothermal projects in Iceland
Aug 17, 2012 - Iceland's major power producer Landsvirkjun, which operates hydropower and geothermal power facilities, is assessing 20 potential sites for its planned nine geothermal projects in the country.
The new projects' total capacity stands at 625 MW.
Landsvirkjun is seeking to start three or four geothermal plants at Bjarnarflag and Theistareykir in northeastern Iceland.
Preparations at Bjarnarflag are in an advanced stage, as there were tenders for the drilling of wells there this June.
