Dutch wind turbine manufacturer Lagerwey on Wednesday cut the ribbon on its new plant in Barneveld, the Netherlands, that will increase the company's production capacity to 50 from 25 wind turbines per year.
The new facility was also needed to accommodate production of Lagerwey's new 4.5-MW L136 wind turbine. Half of the construction costs were financed through crowdfunding.
"This production plant with its facilities suits our ambition to grow as a large player in the wind turbine industry," said chief operating officer Aart van de Pol.
The Barneveld-based company has formed a tie-up with Russian nuclear group Rosatom. It has been selected by Rosatom's subsidiary OTEK as a technology partner for the production of wind turbines in Russia. The two last week signed a technology license agreement and plan to create a joint venture later this year. Rosatom secured 360 MW of wind projects in Russia's recent auction.
Lagerwey said its new plant is environmentally-friendly, making use of 900 solar panels, a heat recovery unit, a heat pump and water-saving measures. There is also space for further expansion.
