UK kite power technology developer Kite Power Systems (KPS) has appointed Colin Palmer as delivery director to lead the development and delivery of the company's 500-kW power system and its first onshore and offshore projects.
Palmer, 37, had until recently worked for UK utility SSE (LON:SSE), where he had mainly focused on offshore wind farm development, including acting as the Beatrice offshore wind farm development project manager for almost five years and leading the project to consent in March 2014. Before joining SSE in 2008, Palmer held various onshore wind project and business development roles at Airtricity in the UK, Ireland and the US.
"I believe the product that we are developing has significant potential to be a disruptive, low-cost, wind energy technology, and that we have talented people here to deliver it," Palmer said. "I am very excited to be leading our product development programme as we drive the business towards commercialisation," he added.
KPS in December 2016 received a GBP-5-million (USD 6.4m/EUR 5.7m) investment from Shell Technology Ventures, E.on (ETR:EOAN) and Schlumberger (NYSE:SLB). The company is preparing to start testing its device in Scotland.
