US energy storage company Key Capture Energy LLC is preparing to install a 20-MW/40-MWh battery energy storage facility (BESS) in New York and operate it through a state incentive programme.
The construction of the system will be carried out with the help of local union labor organisations International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the Communications Workers of America, Key Capture said earlier this week. Technical services provider Black & McDonald will be in charge of all building and engineering activities related to the project.
Dubbed KCE NY 6, the BESS facility will be located south of Buffalo and will be operated through the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s (NYSERDA’s) Bulk Energy Storage Market Bridge Incentive (MBI) scheme.
Albany, New York-based Key Capture, a unit of South Korea’s SK E&S, noted that the project will be realised to back its goal of having over 1 GW of contracted battery storage capacity in operation in New York, New England and Texas by end-2023.
