Kansai Electric powers up 12-MW wind farm in Japan

Dec 20, 2012 - Japanese utility Kansai Electric Power Co Inc (TYO:9503) today said its 12-MW Awaji wind farm in Hyogo Prefecture on Honshu island had started commercial operations.

The facility, the company's first wind power plant, is expected to generate enough electricity to power 5,500 households per year and offset 7,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

Construction on the wind farm began in August 2009. It was suspended in February 2010 and restarted in October last year.
