Danish engineering consultancy K2 Management (K2M) on Monday said it has been appointed as owner’s engineer for Spain-based BlueFloat Energy’s 1-GW Winds of September floating offshore wind project in Taiwan.
The project, BlueFloat’s maiden offshore wind development in Taiwanese waters, will be one of the bidders in the third round of Taiwan’s offshore wind tender programme in 2023. The scheme was initially presented by the Spanish developer in May.
K2M’s responsibilities will include developing concept designs, supporting procurement and preparing auction proposals, including localisation plans. The Danish firm already took part in the screening for site selection and work on pre-feasibility wind turbine layout, energy yield analysis and export cable routing.
Winds of September will be located 25 kilometres (15.5 miles) off the coast of Hsinchu County and Hsinchu City in northwestern Taiwan, with the turbines floating turbines to be installed in an area of around 125 square kilometres (48.3 sq miles) at around 70-96 metres water depth.
The scheme was named after strong winds hitting the Hsinchu region every September.
