November 12 (Renewables Now) - Japan-based company JERA Co Inc announced today it has held an inauguration ceremony for the 128-MW Formosa 1 offshore wind farm in Taiwan.
Located off the coast of Miaoli County, the facility consists of 22 turbines capable of generating the equivalent to the annual consumption of 128,000 local homes. It was switched on in two phases, with the 8-MW first one being connected back in April 2017.
Formosa 1 is the result of a partnership between JERA, which holds a 32.5% stake in the plant, and Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) with 35%, Macquarie Group Ltd (ASX:MQG) with 25% and Swancor Holding Co Ltd with the remaining 7.5%.
In addition to Formosa 1, JERA and its partners, minus Ørsted, are also working on the development of the 376-MW Formosa 2 wind project. With 47 wind turbines, this wind farm targets achieving commercial operation by end-2021.
