JERA, Ademe, Ideol plan 2-GW floating offshore wind JV

Japanese utility JERA said today it has teamed up with France’s Ademe Investissement and Ideol SA to develop at least 2 GW of floating offshore wind projects.

Through a newly-formed investment vehicle, the trio will finance the development phase of several floating offshore wind projects across the globe in the next five years. All of the schemes will be based on Ideol’s high-local-content technology -- the Damping Pool.

JERA says there is significant global potential for floating wind, referring to upcoming auctions for commercial-scale floating offshore capacity in Scotland and France and initiatives in “promising” markets such as Japan and the US.

"We are positively assured by Ideol`s high local content technology and we envision commercial scale projects around the globe through this partnership," said Satoshi Yajima, executive officer of JERA’s Business Development Department.

Ideol has two operational full-scale demonstrators, at home and in Japan, and a 24-MW pre-commercial wind farm under development in the Mediterranean.
