JDR Cable Systems on Thursday announced that is has secured a contract to supply, test and terminate subsea cables for the 247-MW Arcadis Ost 1 offshore wind farm project in German waters of the Baltic Sea.
The UK cable maker was awarded the contract through a competitive tender by Belgian offshore wind specialist Parkwind NV, which developed the Arcadis Ost 1 project.
The agreement includes the supply of 45 kilometres (28 miles) of 33-kV array cables that will connect the wind farm’s 27 turbines. JDR is to also provide technicians, tooling and test equipment for the testing and termination of the array cable.
The cables will be manufactured at JDR’s factory in Hartlepool, UK. A cable installation contractor is due to pick up the order in 2022, JDR said.
The Arcadis Ost 1 wind farm will located around 19 kilometres northeast off the island of Ruegen in the waters of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state. The project was successful in Germany’s offshore wind auction in April 2018.
Arcadis Ost 1 will become Parkwind’s fifth offshore wind farm. The company currently operates four wind farms totalling 771 MW off Belgium’s shores.
Among the contractors for the Arcadis Ost 1 project are DEME Offshore, which was awarded the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract for the wind farm’s foundations. Germany’s Steelwind Nordenham GmbH was brought on board to manufacture the monopiles. Denmark’s Bladt Industries A/S will design, build and install the Arcadis Ost 1 offshore substation.
Parkwind expects the wind farm to be up and running in 2023.
