JDR plans service support centre in Newcastle

JDR Cable Systems Ltd, a UK-based subsea power cables supplier that serves the renewables and other sectors, said on Tuesday it plans to open a new European service support centre in Newcastle.

The company, which offers inter-array cables for offshore wind, wave and tidal energy projects, intends to build on the River Tyne a 4,000-sq-m facility (43,060 sq ft) that includes a workshop, a warehouse and offices. Up to 50 employees will work at the new centre.

JDR said it has decided to build the facility because of the high demand for its service work, including offshore installation support and maintenance activities. The new centre, located close to projects in the North Sea and Europe, JDR’s Hartlepool facility and the local supply chain, will coordinate the firm’s operations in the Middle East and Asia. It will also serve as a base for the sales and marketing teams.

The facility is expected to become operational by the third quarter of next year.
