ITM Power, ABO Wind team on wind-to-hydrogen storage
Nov 2, 2012 - UK energy storage and clean fuel firm ITM Power plc (LON:ITM) said today it had partnered with German wind farm developer ABO Wind AG to jointly develop wind-to-hydrogen projects in the UK, Ireland and Germany.
ABO Wind develops turnkey wind power projects and has so far installed over 350 turbines with a combined capacity exceeding 600 MW in the UK, Europe and South America. It also runs its own projects as well as some of the projects it developed on behalf of their owners. Currently the company manages 297 wind farms.
Phil Doran, managing director of German branch ITM Power GmbH, said that the partnership with an established player such as ABO Wind would allow his company to commercialise green hydrogen energy systems that combine wind power with energy storage.
ABO Wind head of prototype projects, Thomas Nietsch, said that the collaboration would result in the development of MW-scale wind-to-hydrogen projects.
