October 25 (Renewables Now) - Italian natural gas utility company Snam SpA (BIT:SRG) and a unit of Beijing Enterprises Holdings Ltd (HKG:0392) will study opportunities for collaboration in biomethane and natural gas storage in China.

For the purpose, Snam today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China's top natural gas distributor and supplier Beijing Gas Group Co Ltd, whose network covers 22,000 km and over 6 million customers in the Beijing area.

“We are interested in developing projects in China, a country whose gas demand will triple between now and 2040 contributing to a more sustainable energy mix,” commented Snam CEO Marco Alverà.

In August 2018, Snam announced a MoU with a wholly-owned unit of State Grid Corporation of China to look into the possibility of building biogas and biomethane facilities in rural areas of China.
