Irish Gaelectric gets nod for EUR-22m wind farm project in northern Ireland

(ADPnews) - Sep 14, 2010 - Irish renewable energy company Gaelectric Developments Ltd has received the thumbs-up for a EUR 22 million (USD 28.3m) wind farm project in northern Ireland, newspaper Irish Times wrote today.

The 11.5-MW wind farm, to be located in the county of Tyrone, will be able to supply energy for 11,000 homes in the region at full capacity. The company has earlier announced that EUR 4.4 million of the project amount will go towards local businesses, with some 20 workplaces being opened for the construction of the plant.

Gaelectric, which operates in Ireland and the US, has been planning a number of wind generator facilities in the counties of Antrim and Tyrone for the past few years. The current project is the second successful one for the firm in Northern Ireland, it said.

Currently, the company has 25 projects at different development stages all over Ireland. The first one to be completed is a wind farm in Roscommon, northern Ireland, which will be commissioned by the end of 2010.
