(ADPnews) - Nov 23, 2010 - Irish energy supplier Energia, which is part of the Viridian Group, has switched on a 10 MW wind power farm at Drumlough Hill in the County Donegal.
The 12-turbine facility will generate green electricity for business customers across the country. The company calculates that the present 17% supply will have risen to 25% by 2012.
"Energia has consistently been one of the largest investors in Ireland's renewable sector and currently has 255 MW of operational renewable electricity capacity contracted within its energy portfolio, with a further 484 MW of wind farm projects currently in development across Ireland," Peter Baillie, managing director renewables at Energia commented.
By 2012, Energia intends to become the major independent renewable off-taker in Ireland with 740 MW, around 25% of the Irish renewable market. Besides, renewable power assets, Energia also operates a 750 MW gas-fired station in Dublin and supplies 30% of all gas consumed in Ireland by the country's business gas users.
