US power supplier WPPI Energy said on Thursday it has struck a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the output of Invenergy Wind LLC’s 132-MW Bishop Hill III wind project in the state of Illinois.
Under the terms of the deal, WPPI will buy the generated electricity through mid-2040. The company, which serves 51 electric utilities in Wisconsin, Upper Michigan and Iowa, said the PPA will allow it to more than double the amount of wind in its power supply. Following the start-up of the wind park, emission-free sources will account for 40% of WPPI’s total power, president and CEO Mike Peters added.
The Bishop Hill III wind farm will be constructed in Illinois’ Henry County, with commercial operations slated to begin by the middle of 2018. Once completed, the plant will bring more than USD 10 million (EUR 8.4m) in local tax benefits in the first 10 years of operation.
The wind farm is part of the Bishop Hill wind complex that also includes the 201-MW Bishop Hill I and 81-MW Bishop Hill II plants. Invenergy sold the smaller facility to US utility MidAmerican Energy Holdings Co in 2012.
